My decision to have a breast reduction surgery began during my sophomore year at college. I felt my breasts were interfering not only physically but also psychologically with my social life as well as my professional life. I did a lot of research into plastic surgeons and was blown away by Dr. Hurwitz’s credentials. I waited a few years and finally made my consultation appoint with Dr. Hurwitz in September 2010. When I first met Dr. Hurwitz, I immediately felt that he was professional and he had such confidence in his work, which made me very safe and confident in my choice. At the first meeting we discussed breast reduction, which he agreed that I was a candidate for. He also suggested liposuction for my upper abdomen, which would help to even out my figure with the breast reduction. He gave me a great description and an image of exactly what his goal was with the liposuction and I whole-heartedly agreed with his expert advice. I am so glad I listened to his advice and choose the liposuction. He took some initial pictures and proceeded to explain what exactly he would do for my surgery. At the first meeting I also got to meet Sarah and the wonderful staff at the Pittsburgh Center. Every single person who works for Dr. Hurwitz made me feel comfortable and was extremely personable. My surgery was scheduled for December (due to my hectic work schedule) and I began counting down the days.
Leading up to the surgery I had many questions and was constantly emailing the Center for answers. They fully answered all my questions, with lightning quick responses, with the utmost professionalism, compassion and patience.
The morning of the surgery Dr. Hurwitz and his team came to my room and proceeded to prepare me for surgery. He drew all over my breasts and the other areas. To say I wasn’t extremely nervous would be a lie, but Dr. Hurwitz and his staff made me laugh and put me to ease about everything. I could not thank them all enough for this little gesture because it set the tone for the rest of the day.
After my surgery I woke up in recovery and was sore and groggy but the pain was not nearly as “horrible” as I thought it would be. I remember Dr. Hurwitz checking on me at one point and telling me how he thought everything went great. I got to go home an hour or two after I woke up from recovery. The next couple days were a blur but I could not wait to go see Dr. Hurwitz 5 days later to see initially what was done. My surgery was on a Friday and my first checkup was that following Tuesday. I must say one of the things I was not looking forward to was going to the office all gross and dirty from the surgery (not being able to shower for 3 days) but when I got to the office I was again put to ease by the wonderful staff.
It is now 4 months after surgery and I couldn't be happier with the results. Dr. Hurwitz is a skilled surgeon, a caring and considerate doctor and a master of his craft. His medical credentials speak for themselves. There is a calm, quiet strength that comes from the heart of Dr. Hurwitz. He is a blend of excellent surgical skills, with the artistic talent of a sculptor mixed with professionalism, integrity and the right amount of sensitivity to make the process smooth and seamless. My back, neck and shoulder pains are gone. My clothes fit much better. I feel lighter -- and also gained a tremendous amount of self-confidence. Seeing the results of the breast reduction and the liposuction are amazing and I would go through everything all over again because I am so happy with the results. I am also grateful that Dr. Hurwitz suggested the upper abdomen liposuction, as this has helped to balance out my proportions. Already my scarring is going down and my swelling is continuing to go down every day. My only regret is that I waited so long to have this surgery.
I can truly say my breast reduction has enhanced my life. I want to personally thank Dr. Hurwitz and the entire staff at the Pittsburgh Center for giving me a new starting point and a more positive spin on my entire life!
