Tell us if this sounds familiar: you eat right, you exercise regularly, you hydrate, you stay healthy, but there's some stubborn fat in certain parts of your body that will just not go away. That story is true for countless people around the world, and it's actually just a fact of life. Sometimes there's just a little bit of problematic fat that will not respond to even the healthiest of lifestyles. (And just so you know, spot reduction is a myth, so while those crunches will help strengthen your core, they won't necessarily get rid of that belly fat.)
The only way to get rid of this problematic fat is to meet with a plastic surgeon to undergo liposuction. We'd like to focus on one particular modality of liposuction that has proven helpful for many patients: ultrasonic liposuction.
Liposuction is an aesthetic fat reduction surgery that is performed in order to target specific pockets of fat and remove them through safe suction. To do this, a small metal tube known as a cannula is used.
While many people associate liposuction with the abdominal area, liposuction can be performed on any part of the body that requires fat reduction, including the hips, the buttocks, the thighs, the upper torso, the arms, the neckline, and even parts of the face.
Ultrasonic liposuction uses a special cannula that emits ultrasonic waves. (This is just a fancy term for sound waves.) These safe ultrasonic waves help break down the fat in the treatment area, making it easier to extract and thus improving overall aesthetic results.
The best candidates for ultrasonic liposuction are people who are in need of some degree of aesthetic body contouring. They should be in relatively good health and not suffer from any serious health conditions that would make this a risky procedure.
We should also stress if it wasn't clear earlier: liposuction is intended for aesthetic fat reduction, NOT for weight loss. Only a certain amount of body fat will be removed during the procedure.
Ultrasonic liposuction is almost always performed under local anesthetic alone. The procedure itself may vary to some degree depending on the area of the body being treated, but the process is generally the same: the cannula is carefully inserted into the treatment area and moved carefully in order to extract the problematic bits of fat.
Sometimes liposuction is not all that is needed for a patient to meet his or her body contouring goals. During your visit to the practice, we will be more than happy to consider various surgeries intended to lift, tighten, and improve the overall shape and contour of your frame.
